Coach Michael Spencer

The Player

Coach Spencer had a well-travelled career in BC High School, Midget, the CJFL, and two USports programs (Bishop’s and UBC). He gained a deep understanding of the recruiting process and University landscape along the way. This includes academics, different university environments, finances, transfer rules, and eligibility. As someone who wasn’t a star player or special athlete, Spencer earned opportunities through versatility, strong football IQ, and consistent availability. By learning and being available to play multiple positions, opportunities were created that otherwise wouldn’t have been there, such as starting at Outside Linebacker in the 2017 Hardy Cup Championship.

The Coach

Similar to his playing career, versatility has been a defining theme in Coach Spencer's coaching journey. After beginning in 2019 as Defensive Coordinator and LBs Coach at Seaquam Secondary, he was hired by Thomas Ford to Coach Linebackers at Simon Fraser University. Later he would transition to Running Backs, a brand new position to him, and with the help of football coaching legend Dan Dorazio, did so until the end of the 2021 Season. Coach Spencer returned to Seaquam in 2022 as the DC & LB Coach. In 3 seasons at Seaquam they appeared in the playoffs each year and had 12 total players advance to University Football. In 2024, Coach Spencer joined the Langley Rams (CJFL), as the DB Coach. That year the Rams led the league in completion percentage against (49.6%), yards per attempt (6.4), tied for first in interceptions (21), and produced the CJFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Continuing the emphasis on Player advancement, 4 Defensive Backs progressed to USports football programs. Throughout his playing and coaching career he has learned to be versatile and energetic about all new opportunities.
